Emergency & Transitional Shelters During The Summer

August 5, 2019

The summer can be a tough time for people experiencing homelessness. It’s hot outside, the sun is beating all day, it’s tough to find water, food, and resources, and the tourist season can be overwhelming.

When individuals are under-housed and seeking a safe place to stay temporarily, Lifebridge emergency and transitional shelters play a huge role in gaining stability.

When the summer is in full swing, it can seem like health and stability is not the most important thing, as sunshine usually brings people feelings of positivity and happiness. People may feel their best during the summer and may put off finding the real help they need because it’s not imminent at the moment.

The truth of the matter is, during the winter we have an influx of clients looking to utilize our emergency and transitional shelters.

As we do increase the number of beds available in our shelters during the colder months of the year, the winter is not the time to be planning, looking for help, and regaining stability.

The winter sets in before we know it. When it starts to get colder outside, people experiencing homelessness begin to worry more so than ever.

That is why we stress the use of our services all year long, and especially during the summertime.

Supportive Housing

When clients come to us during the summer, they are ready and prepared for what winter will bring. They don’t experience that panic mode when frantically looking for shelter as winter approaches. We want to get everyone in the routine of utilizing services as they need them.

At our emergency & transitional shelters, people find the safety and comfort they need to focus on reaching their goals. We have nurses, therapeutic groups, community collaboration, and other supportive services available to help clients get the care they need.

Those are important for clients working on meeting financial goals, improving physical/mental health, and working toward legal, recovery, educational, and employment goals.

Seeds of Hope is the only shelter in Peabody, Danvers, Salem, Beverly, and Swampscott that serves homeless, unattached women.

We offer day services to community residents, those who do not reside at Seeds of Hope with basic needs and ongoing support. Such services include access to our nurses, showers, clothing, and personal care products/basic supplies.

If you have questions about how you can get involved at Lifebridge, or wondering how our services work, reach out to us at any of our three locations.
