The Difference a Community Can Make on Homelessness

February 8, 2020

Tackling homelessness, as with any issue, takes more than just legislation and governing efforts. It takes members of a community standing up, and coming together to truly enact change.

You may be wondering how you and your community can make any significant impact on the homeless epidemic. Luckily, there are genuine ways you can help. Here are a few tips and ideas to help you make a difference in your community.

Community Donations

Donations can have a huge impact on homeless shelters. From helping with clothing and items needed for day to day life, to helping to keep the doors open, every donation goes a long way for homeless facilities.

Communities that come together to fundraise or reach financial goals can obviously have a more significant impact than individual donations. Ask local shelters what donations are most in need, then work with your community members to ensure these needs are met.

Helping Those on the Street

It may seem meaningless, but being kind or helping those you see on the street when you can is a powerful way to make a difference. Whether it’s donating socks, having a quick conversation, or even offering a smile, showing humanity is always the right thing to do.

Let this year be the year you and your committee members come together to make a difference. While it might be impossible to change the world, it isn’t impossible to save your community.
